Album: First Cut
The first CD release from The Morgan String Band
Tracks
1. Earl's Breakdown (written by: Earl Scruggs)
This is straight ahead blusgrass tune which is about how a bluegrass banjo should sound. Steve is all over this one.
2. Little Lies (written by: Jeff White)
An excelent contemporary bluegrass tune. This song is a typical example of when deceit ruins an otherwise good union.
3. Wait For Your Return (written by: Chris Brown)
A song of hope, however most likely in vain
4. Your Love (written by: Chris Bown)
A genuine love song that reveals my "soft side". We had fun arranging this one.
5. I Feel The Blues Moving In (written by: Del McCoury)
This song has great drive to it. Another one of those relationship songs that is quite sad.
6. E.M.D. (written by: Dave Grisman)
A little "jazzgrass" on our version of this song. From a Ronnie Howard movie entitled, "Eat My Dust".
7. Don't Give Your Heart To A Rambler (written by: Jimmy Skinner)
I love the harmony in this song. First heard this on a Tony Rice album.
8. You Can Count On Me (written by: Chris Brown)
A song of pleading to "take me back" ... all she just needs is convincing.
9. That's Right (written by: Chris Brown)
Sometimes you are better off being alone ... enough said.
10. Gold Rush (written by: Bill Monroe)
A great song for the guitar. Lots of flat picking going on in this one. How can you go wrong covering a Bill Monroe tune.
11. The Wind And The Rain (written by: Chris Brown)
The husband typically leaves this earth before the wife... not sure why that is. In my song the husband is left to carry on until he joins her in the "after life".
12. In The Gravel Yard (written by: Malcolm Pulley)
A good friend and supporter loves this song, for you Pat.
13. Grandpa Was A Carpenter (written by: John Prine)
One of my favorite song writers. We took some liberties with the music... turned out be a fun song, with a great message.
14. Carey Breakdown (written by: Morgan String Band)
i brought this melody to the group a few years ago. With a little collaboration, it morphed into this. An amazing tune that we often close our shows with.
